20 Minutes with... Shauna Darling Robertson and Dawn Gorman

30th June 2018, 12:15pm - 12:35pm, The Panelled Room, The Master's House, St Katherine's, Ledbury, HR8 1EA

Shauna and Dawn met last year while performing at Bath Festival and, since they both enjoy working collaboratively, decided to see what might happen if they brought their poems together. What happened surprised them, as they uncovered an uncanny assortment of life experiences in common.
Here, they'll explore the theme of 'Restraint & Release'.
There's no shortage of life experiences that can lead us to feel clenched, checked and hemmed in. So how do we give authorities the slip, shirk family patterns, wriggle free from relationships and unpick the locks of our own limiting kinks?
Shauna Robertson hails from the north-east of England and now lives in the south-west. Her poems have been set to music, performed by actors, displayed on buses, turned into short films, made into comic art, hung on a pub wall and widely published in journals, 'zines and anthologies. She has two chapbooks, Blueprints for a Minefield (Fair Acre Press, 2016) and Love Bites (forthcoming from Dancing Girl Press, 2018). Shauna also writes for children and makes artwork.
Dawn Gorman devises and runs community arts events, including the reading series Words & Ears, which takes place monthly in Bradford on Avon, and periodically elsewhere, including Edinburgh Fringe - where she was also a poet in residence in 2015 and 2016. Her pamphlet This Meeting of Tracks was published in the Pushcart Prize-nominated four-poet Mend & Hone (Toadlily Press, 2013), and her work has appeared in journals including Iota, Magma, The Rialto, The Interpreter's House and Under the Radar, and in numerous anthologies. She collaborates widely - the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and 250 schoolchildren, wrote a symphony based on her poem Replenishment; and the overture, devised as a film poem, appeared at Cannes Short Film Festival.
